A method for preparing a cable and a cable core having a crosslinked insulating layer. The method includes (a) providing an initial cable core having a conductor, a first semiconductor layer, an initial insulating layer including a crosslinkable polymeric composition, and a second semiconductor layer; and (b) subjecting the initial cable core to an intersection The process.
