The present invention provides a liquid crystal alignment agent which can obtain a liquid crystal element having excellent afterimage characteristics and contrast characteristics. The liquid crystal alignment agent of the present invention contains the compound (X) having a partial structure represented by the following formula (1). □ (R1nAnd R2nRespectively independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a nitro group, a cyano group or a monovalent organic group, R3nAs a substituent; X1nOxygen atom or -NR4n- (where, R4nIs a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group, and R4nCan be bonded to other groups to form a ring structure together with a nitrogen atom); R3nIt may be bonded to other groups to form at least a part of the ring; n is an integer of 0 to 3; "*" means a bonding bond). |
