The present invention relates to a compound of formula I,n□ wherein X1 and X2 each independently represent -O-, -(CO)-O-, -O-(CO)-, -O-(CO)-O-, -NH-, -NY01- or -NH -(CO)-, preferably -O-, -(CO)-O- or -O-(CO)-, and Sp represents 1 to 20 C atoms, preferably 1 to 15 C atoms, and especially a linear alkyl group having 1 to 10 C atoms, and a cycloalkyl group, a cycloalkylalkyl group or an alkylcycloalkyl group, wherein one or more of the -CH 2 groups of all of the groups may be -O- is substituted in such a manner that no two O atoms are directly bonded to each other in the molecule, and R represents a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 10 C atoms, and a cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl group. Or an alkylcycloalkyl group, wherein one or more of the -CH2- groups of all such groups may be replaced by -O- such that no two O atoms are directly attached to each other in the molecule, preferably a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 7 C atoms and particularly preferably an alkyl group having 1 to 4 C atoms, and its use in a liquid crystal medium, and also relates to such a liquid crystal medium.
