abstract | The present invention relates to a benzoxene containing at least one benzoxene unit from an aromatic amine containing at least one primary amine group, at least one phenolic compound having at least one ortho hydrogen, and an alkyloxymethanol (formcel). A method of synthesizing a compound. In one embodiment, the aromatic amine is reacted with an alkyloxymethanol to produce an alkoxymethyl intermediate compound. Subsequently, the intermediate compound is reacted with a phenol to produce the benzoxan compound. In another embodiment, the benzoindene compound is formed by reacting an aromatic amine with an alkyloxymethanol and a phenol in one reaction step. A method of separating the alkoxymethyl compound formed by reacting an aromatic amine with an alkyloxymethanol is also disclosed. The isolated alkoxymethyl compound can be used as a reactant in the subsequent reaction. |
