The present invention provides a photocatalyst which can achieve a greater improvement in catalyst efficiency by the appearance of surface plasmon resonance. The photocatalyst comprises: metal oxide particles carrying metal particles having absorption by surface plasmon resonance to function as a photocatalyst; and a metal element containing a group selected from the group consisting of copper, palladium and platinum. One or two or more of them. The metal oxide particles preferably comprise a group selected from the group consisting of titanium oxide, tungsten oxide, vanadium oxide, zinc oxide, tin oxide, indium oxide, antimony oxide, barium tungstate, barium vanadate, barium titanate, and barium oxynitride. One or two or more kinds of the metal particles preferably contain at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of gold and silver. |
