titleOfInvention | Use of a low-intensity pulsed ultrasonic device for treating and/or preventing neurodegenerative diseases |
abstract | The present invention discloses that low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) stimulation can increase the expression of BDNF, GDNF, VEGF and GLUT1 proteins in rat brain astrocytes, and integrin inhibition, as measured by Western blot analysis. The agent (RGD peptide) attenuates the ability of LIPUS to induce the expression of neurotrophic factors. Therefore, LIPUS can promote the protein expression of neurotrophic factors by activating integrin receptor signaling. In addition, LIPUS stimulation protects cells against aluminum toxicity, and the semi-lethal dose of aluminum chloride can be increased from 3.77 to 6.25 mM. In live behavioral experiments, LIPUS significantly improved aluminum-induced memory impairment and reduced brain damage. The present invention discloses a transcranial pulsed ultrasound that increases the protein expression of neurotrophic factors that may have a beneficial effect on neurodegenerative diseases. |
