An object of the present invention is to provide an excellent chemical stability which can withstand a strong oxidizing gas environment in the operation of a fuel cell, and can achieve excellent proton conductivity, excellent mechanical strength and physical durability under low humidification conditions. An excellent polymer electrolyte composition, a polymer electrolyte membrane using the same, a membrane electrode assembly, and a polymer electrolyte fuel cell.nThe solution is that the polymer electrolyte composition of the present invention contains at least an ionic group-containing polymer (A) and an organic phosphorus-based additive (C), and further contains a nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic ring-based additive (D).
