titleOfInvention Simultaneous latency coding and rate coding for automatic error correction
abstract Methods and apparatus are provided for identifying both environmental stimuli using both spike firing and spike counting in an artificial nervous system. An exemplary method of operating an artificial nervous system generally includes receiving a stimulus, generating a spike sequence having two or more spikes based at least in part on the stimulus, at least in part based on the firing of the spike sequence The stimulus; and examining the identified stimulus based at least in part on a peak rate in the spike sequence. In this way, certain aspects of the present case can respond with a short response latency and can also maintain accuracy by allowing error correction.
