The present invention provides a method for producing a phenol resin which can produce an epoxy resin having a benzoxene structure with a simple and safe process yield, a phenol resin, an epoxy resin, and an epoxy resin composition containing the same. The phenol resin represented by the following formula (1) is produced by reacting dihydroxynaphthalene with a ketone under an organic acid catalyst.n□ (wherein R1 and R2 represent a hydrogen atom or the like, and k represents an integer of 1 to 4). |
