A heated aerosol-generating article comprising an aerosol-generating substrate, wherein the aerosol-generating substrate comprises a rod comprising a gathered sheet of homogenized tobacco material bounded by a coating material. The homogenized tobacco material flakes comprise one or more plasticizers and at least about 5 weight percent triethyl citrate based on dry weight. The one or more plasticizers are preferably selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, saccharides, and polyols. Preferably, the homogenized tobacco material flakes are crimped or otherwise textured. |
