The present invention provides a composite liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal compound and a polymerizable compound, and having a sufficiently high Δn, and further capable of forming a liquid crystal device having high light stability and capable of driving at a low voltage.nThe composite liquid crystal composition of the present invention contains a compound having a biphenyl skeleton and two or more compounds represented by the formula (Ia) as a liquid crystal compound, and the content of the compound having a biphenyl skeleton is 20% by mass or less based on the liquid crystal compound. In the compound represented by the formula (Ia), the content of the compound wherein C1 is 1,4-cyclohexylene and n1 is not 0 is 45 mass% or more in the liquid crystal compound, and is selected from the group consisting of formula (II-a1) and (II-).
