abstract | A smoking article (2, 34, 38, 42, 44, 48) includes: a combustible heat source (4) having an opposite front side (6) and a back side (8); one or more air flow passages (18) from The front side (6) of the combustible heat source (4) extends to the back side (8) of the combustible heat source (4); an aerosol forming substrate (10) downstream of the back side (8) of the combustible heat source (4); a mouthpiece (14) downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate (10); and one or more inlets (32, 36) downstream of the back (8) of the combustible heat source (4) and the mouthpiece (14) upstream. The one or more air inlets (32, 36) are located between the back side (8) of the combustible heat source (4) and the downstream end of the aerosol-forming substrate (10). In use, air introduced by the aerosol-forming substrate (10) enters the smoking article via the one or more airflow passages (18) and the one or more air inlets (32, 36) (2) 34, 38, 42, 44, 48) and at least some of the air introduced by the aerosol-forming substrate (10) is in direct contact with a combustible portion of the combustible heat source (4). |
