The present invention relates to antibodies and fragments thereof (particularly chimeric and humanized antibodies and fragments thereof) having binding specificity for HGF and their use in therapy and diagnosis. These antibodies inhibit or block HGF-related activities, including the effects of HGF on cell proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, cancer metastasis, and fibrosis. In particular, such antibodies can be used in the treatment of cancer, other proliferative disorders, and other conditions in which it is desirable to inhibit the binding of HGF and/or HGF/HGF-R (c-met) to each other in a monotherapy or combination therapy. |
