The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition which does not reduce the refractive index anisotropy (Δn) and the nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature (Tni), and has a viscosity (η) sufficiently small and a rotational viscosity (γ1). A Δε which is sufficiently small, has a large elastic constant (K33), and a large absolute value, and further provides a liquid crystal display element which is excellent in display quality such as a VA type and has a fast response speed. The liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal composition of the present invention effectively utilizes the remarkable features of the high-speed response, and is particularly useful as a liquid crystal display element for active matrix driving, and can be applied to a VA mode, a PSVA mode, a PSA mode, an IPS mode, or an ECB mode. |
