abstract | The present invention provides a composition comprising a block copolymer having the formula: [A]-B-[Q], wherein [A] is a polymer having an affinity for a substrate; a B-linking group comprising a polyvalent linking group which is optionally substituted with one molecular weight of not more than 1000 g/mole; and [Q] a semi-crosslinked ungelatinized polymer derived from the polymer Copolymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer with a polyfunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The block copolymers are crosslinked via the [Q] segment, but are not gelatinized on a macroscopic view. The [Q] segment is hydrophilic and has a degree of polymerization from about 10 to about 10,000. The [A] segment is located at at least one end of the block copolymer and comprises from about 1 to about 200 repeating units. The block copolymer is associated via a linear matrix association segment to a surface comprising at least one hydrophobic moiety, such as a polyoxyhydrogel. The polymer may be incorporated into a formulation used to make the polyoxyhydrogel or may be contacted after the polyoxyhydrogel is formed. |
