abstract |
The present invention relates to a process for producing a chemical compound from a carbon dioxide starting material comprising the steps of a) providing a feed stream consisting essentially of carbon dioxide; b) electrolyzing the carbon dioxide of the feed stream to a first carbon monoxide containing phase in the electrolysis stage a gas stream and a second gas stream containing oxygen, wherein in the electrolysis stage, a molar ratio between carbon monoxide and oxygen is about 1:0.5; c) adjusting the composition of the first gas stream or the second gas stream or the two gas streams to include Carbon dioxide: operating at less than CO2 complete conversion, or purging one or two streams with a gas containing CO2, or diluting one or two with a gas containing CO2 at some stage between the cell and the oxidative carbonylation reactor a gas stream; all maintaining a total molar ratio of one of the carbon monoxide to oxygen at about 1:0.5; and d) introducing the first and second process streams into the reaction stage, and combining or continuing the first and second methods The reaction with the substrate provides the chemical compound which is achieved by oxidative carbonylation of the carbon monoxide and oxygen contained in the feed stream of the process. |
