abstract The present invention relates to a method for activating a silent gene in a microorganism by co-cultivating the inducer with the recipient microorganism. The inducer is selected from the group consisting of a chemical inducer, a microbial inducer selected from inactivated microbial cells and/or an inactivated medium in which the microbial cells have been cultured, and/or a medium inducer. The present invention further relates to a method of screening an inducer by co-cultivating an inducer with a recipient microorganism and a method of screening the recipient microorganism. These methods can be used to detect pharmaceutical products such as antibiotics. Further, a medium for culturing a microorganism including an inducer is applied.
