| abstract |
An electronic display comprising a translucent backing layer is disclosed, including a conductive layer. The active layer is disposed between adjacent conductive layers. The active layer includes a cholesteric liquid crystal material. At least one transparent front substrate is disposed adjacent to a conductive layer near the front of the display. The translucent back layer absorbs light passing through the active layer, reflects gray light or light of a certain color, and transmits light. The electronic circuit applies a voltage to the conductive layer to enable at least one of erasing or writing of the active layer. |
