abstract | Polyamine compositions suitable for personal care are disclosed which include film forming concentrates and emulsions. The ethanol-based concentrate comprises a hydrophobic polyamine comprising (a) a dimerized fatty acid, at least one C2-C4 carboxylic acid, and a polyamine comprising ethylenediamine and from 1 to 30 equivalent % of one or more diamines or triamines a component; or (b) a reaction product of a dimerized fatty acid, at least 50 wt.% of a C16-C22 unsaturated carboxylic acid, and at least one C2-C6 diamine. Personal care applications including such concentrates, including continuous sunscreens, aromatic body sprays or sprays, and anti-acne medications. The concentrates can also be used to coat fabrics with insecticides, water repellents, antifouling agents, disinfectants, deodorants, antistatic agents or other active agents. When the concentrate is applied to the skin, hair or scalp as a spray at a suitable ethanol dilution, it provides a fixed sunscreen, fragrance, drug, cosmetic and other active ingredients while enhancing the SPF and delivering an improved skin feel A water resistant film of nature (including low viscosity, low oiliness and reduced skin tension). Water-in-oil emulsions comprising such hydrophobic polyamines are storage stable and provide water resistant SPF to products such as sunscreens and body lotions. A method of comparing skin tightening characteristics of two or more formulations comprising a film forming polymer is also disclosed. |
