abstract | Disclosed herein is a composition useful for prolonging the analgesic effect of a membrane permeable local anesthetic in an individual subject to anesthesia treatment. The composition comprises: (1) an anesthetic effective amount of a membrane permeable local anesthetic; (2) an effective amount of cinnamaldehyde to prolong the analgesic effect of the membrane permeable local anesthetic in the subject; and (3) pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. The composition is characterized in that it does not comprise a membrane impermeable compound, wherein the membrane impermeable compound, when applied to the inner surface of one or more potential gated ion channels, inhibits the ion channel And when applied to the outer surface of the ion channel, the ion channel cannot be substantially inhibited. |
