High flow liquid crystal polymer composition |
abstract |
The present invention provides a liquid crystal polymer composition comprising a liquid crystal polymer and an aromatic guanamine oligomer. The oligomer acts as a flow aid by altering the interaction of the intermolecular polymer chains, thereby reducing the overall viscosity of the polymer matrix under shear. The oligomers are also less prone to volatilization or decomposition during compounding, molding, and/or use, which minimizes gas evolution and bubble formation that would otherwise affect the final mechanical properties of the parts made from the polymer composition. . While providing the benefits indicated, the aromatic guanamine oligomers generally do not react with the polymer backbone of the liquid crystal polymer to any appreciable extent so as not to adversely affect the mechanical properties of the polymer. |
