abstract | Specific examples of the invention include systems and methods for making olefin oxides. For various embodiments, two or more reactors including a plurality of reaction tubes are provided, each having a first surface defining a first side of each tube and a second surface defining a second side of each tube. For various embodiments, including a catalyst for catalytic oxidation of an olefin, the catalyst can be located on a first side of a plurality of reaction tubes. A common supply line supplies each reactor with an input stream that provides a mixture comprising olefins and oxygen to the catalyst. The product output stream of each reactor receives at least the oxidized olefin product and is combined into a single product stream. The coolant fluid passes through the reactor to remove heat from the plurality of reaction tubes and into a single coolant tympanic chamber connected to two or more reactors. A single coolant tympanic chamber receives a plurality of coolant fluid output streams from each reactor. A single coolant tympanic chamber supplies a plurality of coolant fluid input streams of ambient temperature coolant fluid to each reactor. |
