The carbon material for a lithium ion secondary battery of the present invention has a mean interplanar spacing d of the (002) plane obtained by the wide-angle X-ray diffraction method of 3.40 Å or more and 3.90 Å or less, and crystals in the c-axis direction. The size Lc is an amorphous structure of 8 Å or more and 50 Å or less, and has a graphite structure in which the surface spacing d of the (002) plane is 3.25 Å or more and less than 3.40 Å. |
