The present invention relates to a method of producing a surface functionalized object, comprising: (i) providing a negative mold having a surface topography complementary to a desired surface topography on the object; (ii) facing the mold surface in the excitation medium Applying a functional entity; (iii) forming the object in or on the mold, the object being in direct contact with the functional entity as it is formed; and (iv) releasing the object from the mold, wherein in step (iii) And/or during (iv) transferring at least some of the functional entity from the mold to the object while leaving a portion of the functional entity on the surface of the mold. The method can be used to functionalize the surface of the object as it is being cast, and the mold can be reused to form a plurality of replicated objects.
