titleOfInvention Additive and method for removing calcium from crude oil containing calcium naphthenate
abstract The present invention provides for the removal of calcium from crude oils containing calcium naphthenate or blends thereof at low pH and high pH varying between 5 and 11, preferably 6 to 11, more preferably 7 to 11. An additive and method, wherein the additive is glyoxal and the pH is used in the pH of the wash water of the crude oil processing system. Also provided are additives and methods for removing calcium from crude oils containing calcium naphthenate or blends thereof, wherein the use comprises a compound selected from the group consisting of sodium hydroxide (NaOH or caustic soda), ammonia or amine compounds, or mixtures thereof. The wash water of the alkaline medium of the group treats the crude oil, and wherein the pH of the wash water or the treatment mixture in the desalter varies between 5 and 11, preferably between 6 and 11, preferably between 7 and 11, characterized in that The additive is glyoxal and the crude oil or blend thereof is treated with glyoxal.
