The present invention describes a lithium air battery cell having an electrolyte composition containing LiPO2F2. The electrolyte composition comprises an electrolyte solvent such as one or more non-fluorinated solvents such as ethyl carbonate, dialkyl carbonate or propyl carbonate; and/or one or more fluorinated organic solvents such as carbonic acid Fluoride ethyl ester, cis-difluoroextension ethyl carbonate, trans-difluoroextension ethyl carbonate, 4,4-difluoroextension ethyl carbonate, trifluoroacetate, ethyl tetrafluoroacetate, 4-fluoro-4-methyl-1,3-dioxocyclopentan-2-one, 4-fluoro-4-ethyl-1,3-dioxocyclopentan-2-one, carbonic acid 2,2 2-Trifluoroethyl-methyl ester and 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl-fluoromethyl carbonate are preferred. The solvent may further include other additives. The invention also describes a vehicle battery, in particular a vehicle battery constructed from a plurality of lithium air battery cells of the invention. The battery can be used to provide electrical energy to a current consumer including an electric motor that drives the vehicle. |
