abstract | he present invention provides a substrate for a light emitting element which has sufficient heat dissipation properties when used in a light emitting device while suppressing brightness degradation over time due to the color change and so forth of a sealing layer, and a light emitting device using the substrate for a light emitting element, which has excellent long-term stability in use. The substrate for a light emitting element comprises: a base comprised of a sintered body of glass ceramic component containing glass powder and ceramic powder, a part of the base being a mounting section for a mounting surface on which a light emitting element is mounted; a metallic layer embedded in the base, which contains silver as a major component; an element connection terminal formed on said mounting surface for electrical connection with the electrode of the light emitting element; and a covering layer comprised of a sintered body of a covering composition containing a second glass powder as a major component, which is formed on the mounting surface except for the mounting section and the forming section for the element connection terminal. The concentration of silver contained in the glass of the covering layer is 0.3 mass % or less in terms of Ag2O. |
