The disclosure provides a liquid crystal composition which has at least one of the following properties or has a proper balance with regard to at least two of the following properties: a high upper limit temperature of a nematic phase, a low lower limit temperature of a nematic phase, a small viscosity, a large optical anisotropy, a large dielectric constant anisotropy, a large resistivity, a high stability to ultraviolet rays, a high stability to heat and a large elastic constant. In addition, an active matrix device having a short response time, a large voltage retaining ratio, a large contrast ratio, a long lifespan and so forth is provided. A liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display device including the same are provided. The liquid crystal composition has a nematic phase and includes a compound having a large dielectric constant anisotropy and having difluoromethyleneoxy groups and trifluoromethyl groups as a first component, and a specific compound having a small dielectric constant anisotropy as a second component. |
