abstract The present invention relates to a solar cell. The solar cell includes a back electrode, a silicon substrate, a doped silicon layer and an upper electrode. The silicon substrate includes a first surface, a second surface, and a plurality of the step-like 3-D nano-structures located on the second surface. The back electrode is disposed on the first surface of the silicon substrate, and ohmic contact with the first surface of the silicon substrate. The doped silicon layer is disposed on the surface of the step-like 3-D nano-structures and the second surface of the silicon substrate between the adjacent step-like 3-D nano-structures. The upper electrode is disposed on at least partial surface of the doped silicon layer. The present invention also relates to a method for making the solar cell.
