abstract The present invention relates to a process for methylation of glycerol to increase the yield of highly methylated glycerol ether. The process includes: (a) mixing glycerol with a base compound to form a base glycerol compound; (b) mixing methanol with an acid compound to form a methylated acid compound; (c) mixing the base glycerol compound and methylated acid compound in a reactor to form highly methylated glycerol ether and; (d) separating the highly methylated glycerol ether. Another invention provides purification of the highly methylated glycerol ether by using a phydrophobic extraction solvent.
