abstract Disclosed is a liquid crystal display which comprises a backlight and filters. The backlight includes light emitting elements that emit blue light and light emitting devices including green phosphors that absorb part of primary light emitted from the light emitting elements and emit first secondary light and red phosphors that emit second secondary light. The green phosphors include ss-SiAlON phosphors composed of crystals of nitride or oxynitride having a ss-Si3N4 crystal structure containing Eu and Al dissolved in a solid state. The filters include those for red (R), green (G), blue (B), and yellow (Y) each disposed in a plane on the corresponding subpixel in each pixel of the liquid crystal display. With this structure, the liquid crystal display can achieve an excellent color reproducibility (high percentage of NTSC color gamut) and a high emission brightness.
