abstract | The invention is to provide a display device of high luminance and contrast. The display device comprises a color filter containing dye and a white light emitting diode light source, and light emitted from the white light emitting diode light source has a wavelength [lambda]<SB>1</SB>where emission intensity is maximized within a wavelength range of 430 nm to 485 nm, a wavelength [lambda]<SB>2</SB>where emission intensity is maximized within a wavelength range of 500 nm to 580 nm, and a wavelength [lambda]<SB>3</SB>where emission intensity is maximized within a wavelength range of 590 nm to 680 nm. It is preferable that the white light emitting diode light source includes a blue light emitting diode light source and a phosphor, it is preferable that the white light emitting diode light source includes the blue light emitting diode light source, a red light emitting phosphor and a green light emitting phosphor, and it is preferable that the color filter includes the dye and pigments. |
