abstract The present invention provides a method for producing β -Sialon comprising Eu2+ that is present in a solid solution form, which is the method for producing β -Sialon comprising Eu2+ that is present in a solid solution form as luminescence center in β -Sialon represented by Si6-zAlzOzN8-z (0 < z < 4.2), and has a first heating process of firing a raw mixed powder comprising Si, Al and Eu in a nitrogen atmosphere, a second heating process of heat treating the obtained fired product in a rare gas atmosphere or a vacuum atmosphere, and an acid treating process, wherein the first heating process and the second heating process are performed in the same heating furnace.
