A conduction element (856, 906) is provided by the main body (802, 822, 852, 902, 956) and configured for establishing an electrical connection with an electrical connector (849, 862, 968). Establishment of the electrical connection is prevented when the housing does not covers at least a portion of the distal end (808, 828, 910) of the main body (802, 822, 852, 902, 956). The electrical connection may be established when the housing covers at least a portion of the distal end (808, 828, 910) of the main body (802, 822, 852, 902, 956) of the drug delivery device (800, 821, 850, 952).
