abstract Methods for producing high quality nano-particles and quantum dots capable of controlling a position, shape, and size of the nano-particles or the quantum dots in nanoscale with high quality are provided. A resist layer including heat-mode type recording materials is formed on the surface of a substrate. Laser light is irradiated to the resist layer to form non-through holes having nanoscale openings in the resist layer. The resist layer is etched to only expose the surface of the substrate opposite to the bottom surface of the non-through holes. A metal material is deposited on the substrate having the residues of the resist layer. The residues of the resist layer and the metal material deposited on the residues are stripped without stripping the metal material deposited on the exposed surface of the substrate from the substrate. Nano particles including the metal material are formed on the surface of the substrate.
