abstract | A liquid crystal compound is provided which not only has a large negative dielectric anisotropy (Δ ε ) and a high upper limit temperature of a nematic phase (TNI) but also has at least one property of stability to heat, light, etc., right refractive index anisotropy (Δ n) and good compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds, etc. This liquid crystal compound is expressed by formula (1) as follows: In the formula (1), e.g. R1 and R2 are a 1-10C alkyl, 1-9C alkoxyl or 2-10C alkenyl; ring A and ring B are 1, 4-cyclohexylene or 1, 4-phenylene; Z1 and Z2 are a single bond; Z3 is -CH2O- or -OCH2-; Y1 and Y2 are a halogen, -CF3, -CHF2, -CH2F, -OCF3, -OCHF2 or -OCH2F; m and n are 0, 1 or 2; p is 1 or 2; and m+n+p=1, 2 or 3. |
