Disclosed is a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element, by which response characteristics can be easily improved without using a large apparatus. Specifically disclosed is a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element, wherein alignment films (22, 32), which are formed from a polymer compound that has a crosslinkable functional group as a side chain, while containing a bulky structure such as an adamantane structure, are respectively formed on a TFT substrate (20) and a CF substrate (30); then, the substrates are arranged in such a manner that the alignment films (22, 32) face each other, and a liquid crystal layer (40) containing liquid crystal molecules (41) is sealed between the alignment films (22, 32); and then, liquid crystal molecules (41A, 41B) respectively positioned in the vicinity of the alignment films (22, 32) are provided with predetermined pre-tilt angles by reacting the polymer compound in the alignment films (22, 32) and forming a polymer compound having a crosslinked structure, while aligning the liquid crystal molecules (41) so that the major axis directions thereof are inclined to the substrate surface. |
