abstract A cooling device for a hot rolled steel sheet, wherein slow cooling headers (2), which are provided with bar-like cooling water nozzles (3) for slow cooling, and quick cooling headers (4), which are provided with bar-like cooling nozzles (5) for quick cooling, are constructed in a single cooling unit (9) which is provided with ascending/descending units (7) which can ascend and descend together with one another. In cooling the upper surface of a hot rolled steel sheet (such as hot rolled steel band or thick steel sheet), the cooling device can uniformly and stably cool the upper surface while simultaneously maintaining high cooling speed and low cooling speed.
