A novel method for producing an aluminum titanate ceramic having a low thermal expansion coefficient. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing an aluminum titanate ceramic, wherein a raw material mixture containing a titanium source powder, an aluminum source powder and a silicon source powder is fired. The method is characterized in that the silicon source powder has a cumulative 50 % volume particle diameter (D50) of not more than 5 [mu]m. The raw material mixture may additionally contain a magnesium source powder. |
