abstract A tool fixing device comprising a gas spring (20) provided with: a cylinder member (21) which is mounted to a main spindle (2) so as to be movable in the axis direction; a rod member (22) which has a piston (22a) contained in the cylinder member (21) and which also has a rod (22b) extending from the piston (22a) to the tip side of the main spindle; and a gas operation chamber (23) which is formed inside the cylinder member (21) so as to be located further toward the base end side of the main spindle than the piston (22a) and which has compressed gas (G) contained therein. The tool fixing device also comprises: a chuck cylinder connection mechanism (30) which connects the cylinder member (21) and a load input section (10a) of a chuck mechanism (10); and a rod member fixing mechanism (40) which fixes the rod member (22) to the main spindle (2) in such a manner that the rod member (22) does not move to at least the tip side of the main spindle.
