The invention aims to make effective use of fine particles of an aluminum titanate-based ceramic and thus produce an aluminum titanate-based ceramic which has a small BET specific surface area and which exhibits a small pore volume when disintegrated into powder. A process for production of aluminum titanate -based ceramics which comprises firing either a precursor mixture obtained by mixing fine particles of an aluminum titanate-based ceramic with a titania source, an alumina source and, if necessary, a magnesia source and/or a silica source or a powder composed of fine particles of an aluminum titanate-based ceramic in itself in a powdery or formed state, preferably in a formed state. |
