abstract A filter retainer (1) having filtering materials supported on opposite surfaces of the filter retainer. A pair of etched circular plates (3a, 3b) having a large number of circumferentially arranged through-holes (4) formed by chemical etching is joined together with the positions of corresponding through-holes (4) aligned with each other and with radially extending inner paths (8) formed between the pair of etched circular plates (3a, 3b). The structure of the filter retainer is totally novel and clears up various problems, such as accuracy and pressure loss, of conventional filter elements caused by internal structures thereof.
