abstract |
The invention aims at providing a process for the production of alkylated aromatic compounds which is suppressed in the formation of hydrocarbon by-products as compared with conventional processes and a process for the production of phenol which comprises the steps of the above process and which is not increased in the number of steps as compared with the conventional cumene process. A process for the production of alkylated aromatic compounds by reacting an aromatic compound with a ketone and hydrogen in a continuous-flow fixed bed reactor provided with a catalyst zone filled with a catalyst containing both a solid acid substance and a Cu-containing catalyst composition, wherein the catalyst zone is composed of an upstream-side catalyst layer and a downstream-side catalyst layer which layers are distinguishable from each other and the upstream-side catalyst layer consists of a Cu-containing catalyst composition (A1) and the downstream-side catalyst layer consists of both a Cu-containing catalyst composition (A2) and a solid acid substance (B) with the (A2):(B) weight ratio being 0.5:1 to 0.001:1. |
