A surface-treating agent for metallic materials which comprises a polymer (P) having in the molecule a polymerization unit from a (meth)acrylic ester (A) represented by the general formula (I) wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and R2 represents a group represented by the general formula (II) wherein R3, R4 and R5 mutually independently represent hydrogen atoms, hydroxyl groups or alkyl groups having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and having a glass transition temperature of 0 to 70 □, an emulsifier and water, and in which treating agent, polymer (P) is dispersed by the emulsifier. The treating agent is excellent in storage stability, and can form coating excellent in ultraviolet ray deterioration resistance, alkali resistance, acid resistance, workability and coating transparency. |
