abstract A liquid crystal alignment layer having a high voltage holding rate, a low ion density and a low residual DC, a liquid crystal alignment agent to form this liquid crystal alignment layer and a liquid crystal display element layer hardly producing image sticking are provided. The composition of the liquid crystal alignment agent includes the following polymers and solvents. The polymer is selected from at least one of a polyamic acid and derivative thereof obtained through a reaction by a diamine represented by formula (a), a mixture of other diamine and tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. The said other diamine is selected from at least one of the non-side chain type diamine, at least one of the side chain type diamine, or at least one of the mixture of at least one of the non-side chain type diamine and at least one of the side chain type diamine. L1 is hydrogen, alkyl group having 1 carbon to 4 carbons, phenyl group or benzyl group.
