abstract In a combustion furnace wherein combustible components in the waste gas generated during the heat treatment of a subject to be treated are combusted for deodorizing, the combustion heat is effectively utilized. A heat treatment apparatus (1) wherein a subject to be treated is dried or thermally decomposed by blowing overheated steam into a kiln furnace (12), characterized in that a combustion furnace (15), into which the waste gas discharged from the kiln furnace (12) is introduced and in which combustible components in the waste gas are combusted for deodorizing, is located on the outer peripheral face of the kiln furnace (12). Thus, deodorization is conducted by combusting the combustible components in the waste gas discharged from the kiln furnace (12) on the outer peripheral face of the kiln furnace (12) and the kiln furnace (12) is preheated from the outer peripheral face thereof by the combustion heat thus generated.
