titleOfInvention Method for producing titanium dioxide
abstract The invention relates to the production of titanium dioxide by reacting titanium tetrachloride with preheated oxygen in a tubular reactor in at least two steps. The titanium tetrachloride is only used in the liquid form. All of the used liquid TiCI4 is quantitatively divided in such a manner that in the first step, only a small amount of TiCI4 is dosed in order to start combustion despite using the liquid phase. In the first step, the required activation energy is only provided by the preheated oxygen. In all other steps, the activation energy is provided by the preheated oxygen and by the reaction enthalpy of the oxidation of TiCI4 that is released in the previous steps. Said claimed inventive method is energy saving compared to other known methods.
