abstract | Methods of recovering a triarylmethyl halide from a sucrose derivatization process include the steps of (a) triarylmethylating sucrose in the presence of an amine; (b) acylating the triarylmethylated sucrose in the presence of an mine to form a triarylmethylated sucrose pentaester and triarylmethylated sucrose impurities; (c) separating from the output of step (b) a mixture comprising the triarylmethylated sucrose impurities and the amine; (d) removing the amine from the output of step (c); (e) contacting the product of step (d) with hydrogen halide to cleave triarylmethyl groups and thereby form a crude triarylmethyl halide component; (f) contacting the crude triarylmethyl halide component with hydrogen halide to form a purified triarylmethyl halide component; and (g) recovering the triarylmethyl halide from the output of step (f). |
