titleOfInvention | Process for production of carbon monoxide-vinyl alcohol copolymer, carbon monoxide-vinyl alcohol copolymer, and water-resistant composition using the copolymer |
abstract | Disclosed is a novel carbon monoxide-vinyl alcohol copolymer (CO-modified PVA) having a carbonyl group in its main chain, which has good solubility in water and can be prepared into an aqueous composition having excellent viscosity stability. Also disclosed is a process for producing the CO-modified PVA. The process comprises the steps of copolymerizing carbon monoxide and a vinyl ester monomer without any solvent or in an alcohol-based solvent in an atmosphere containing carbon monoxide to produce a carbon monoxide-vinyl ester copolymer, and saponifying the copolymer, thereby producing the CO-modified PVA. The CO-modified PVA has a content of a monomer derived from carbon monoxide of 0.01 to 8 mol% and a degree of saponification of 60 to 99.99 mol%. When the CO-modified PVA is prepared into a 4 wt% aqueous solution, the aqueous solution has a viscosity of 2.0 to 150.0 mPa s. |
