abstract | The object of the present invention is to provide glycositol derivatives which have blood sugar level lowering action and, in addition, suitable properties as drugs such as drug effect durability, metabolic stability and safety and to provide pharmaceutical compositions which are used for the prophylaxis or treatment of diabetes such as insulin-dependent diabetes (type I diabetes) and insulin-independent diabetes (type II diabetes), diabetic complications and diseases such as obesity caused by hyperglycemia. Compounds of formula (I), , (wherein m is an integer selected from 1 to 3; R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each independently selected from a hydrogen atom, a C1-C6 alkyl group which may be substituted, a C7-C14 aralkyl group which may be substituted and -C(=O)Rx; Ar1 is a naphthyl group which may be substituted; A is a heteroaryl group which may be substituted with one or more Rb and the heteroaryl group may form a fused ring with an aromatic carbon ring or an aromatic heterocycle, provided that when A is a benzo-fused ring containing two or more rings, the group -(CH2)m- is connected on to a heterocycle in (A) or a prodrug or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and drugs and pharmaceutical compositions which contain the compounds are provided by the present invention. |
